ABOUT CNCZEN

Making the setup part of CNC woodworking a little easier.

From software to the shop.

I'm a professional software engineer. During COVID, I got heavily interested in 3D printing and woodworking. I liked the mix of figuring out a problem, making something useful, and ending up with a real thing instead of another screen full of code.

About three years ago, I added CNC woodworking to the mix. It has been a good fit, even if my software engineering skills are still a lot better than my CAD/CAM skills.

The work before the cutting starts.

I've found that creating vectors and setting up toolpaths can take far more time than I expect. The work is necessary, but it is easy to repeat and hard to get excited about when there is a project waiting on the bench.

I started CNCzen to simplify that process. The site is a place for practical projects, clear shop notes, and focused tools that take some of the repetitive setup out of getting from an idea to the CNC.
